Scientific Background The mitomycins are a family of aziridine containing natural products. Mitomycin C is a chemotherapeutic agent because of its mechanism of potent DNA crosslinker, reductive activation followed by two N-alklyations. Both alkylations are sequence specific for a guanine nucleoside in the sequence 5’-CpG-3’ (1).
